Grounding Meditation
a short film
“Meditations" is a short film series consisting of three films: Grounding, Fire, and Water meditation, showcasing the correlation between human emotions and life cycles with the cycles and emotions of nature. I believe there is infinite wisdom to be found in nature if we take the time to stop and listen. I also believe that God places treasures right in front of us, hidden in plain sight; the chorus of birds and the rustling of leaves, the resilience and obedience of the trees, and the support of the earth herself.
This special series of films was created during my artist residency at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences in 2024. During my stay, I explored the unique connection between nature, art, and wellness. You will see I bring God in all of my films. I also naturally find a lot of inspiration from nature herself; you can’t speak of nature without bringing God into it. At my residency, I became a better version of myself, blossoming as a woman and finding my unique identity as an artist.
Grounding Meditation is an ode to those before me, to God as the creator of me and the trees, the earth for its support, and all of its beautiful treasures. I was deeply inspired by the gift of solitude while being immersed in the mountains of Rabun Gap, GA. The style of this short film is considered experimental “avant-garde,” as it does not adhere to traditional narrative film structures. The raw footage is from my VHS camera, adding texture and a slight dose of nostalgia. The opening scenes of me walking barefoot on the earth represent me connecting to the creator; the modern term for this is called “grounding.” The spoken word is a personal reflection that I wish for the viewer to meditate on and reflect on their personal reflection on nature, God, and surrendering.
